I think many women, like me, want to freeze their eggs but are afraid to undergo the procedure alone. Freezing my eggs at Huang Jianrong Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic was very comfortable.
I’m 41 this year, and I decided to freeze my eggs because of my age. Six years ago (2019), Dr. Lin Yuhong, whom I’ve known for over 20 years, recommended Dr. Huang to me. Even if there were any questions, the nurses patiently explained everything, and I was encouraged to ask questions without fear.
I visited the clinic for the first time on April 29th this year. Dr. Huang, the junior doctor, and the nurses all made me feel very warm and respected. During the first visit, the junior doctor explained the relationship between age and egg quality, ordered a blood test, and then Dr. Huang explained the treatment process and potential issues. Afterwards, the nurses helped me fill out forms, had my blood drawn, and informed me of necessary precautions and scheduled a follow-up appointment. After the first visit, I was amazed at how easy it was! My first visit was on the fourth day of my period, which meant I missed the optimal time to start the treatment. My second appointment was scheduled for five days later (May 3rd), and my AMH level was 1.2. Dr. Huang instructed me to start applying Onstol gel, and we decided to freeze my eggs before July. On May 26th, my third appointment included an ultrasound, which showed 13 follicles. However, due to exhaustion and the possibility of hospitalization, I decided against starting treatment this month and scheduled a follow-up appointment for June 25th. My fourth appointment also included an ultrasound, but this time the number of follicles had decreased to 8. After discussing with Dr. Huang, we decided to postpone the treatment for another month to allow my eggs and body to recover. Because an elderly family member was hospitalized, Dr. Huang and the nurses provided care and encouragement, which was very touching. On July 28th, my fifth appointment also included an ultrasound, showing 11 follicles. Finally, it was time to begin treatment. I received 5 syringes, 6 boxes of injectable medication, and oral medication. I could choose to administer the injections at home or have the nurses at the clinic help me. I originally planned to go to the clinic every day, but due to an elderly relative’s funeral, I was not in Taipei, so I had to learn to administer the injections myself. The nurses were very kind. Tsk, they taught me how to administer the injections for two days straight and watched me do it. Later, I realized it wasn’t difficult at all, and I didn’t even get bruises! The clinic nurses would call around 2 PM to inform me of the oral medication dosage, so even though they prescribed the medication, I might not necessarily take it.
August 2nd, sixth appointment: One follicle larger than 10mm on each side, a bit discouraging. But there were 5 follicles smaller than 10mm on the right and 6 on the left. Dr. Huang said we’d give them some more injections and oral medication to help them grow. This time, I’ll have three more days of injections and oral medication. Please have the nurses draw up the medication for me so I can administer it at home.
August 5th, seventh appointment: 5 follicles larger than 10mm on the right and 2 on the left. There were 4 smaller follicles on the right and 5 on the left. I’ll go back for two more days of injections and oral medication. This time, egg retrieval is confirmed for August 9th. They gave me the trigger shot first. On August 7th, my eighth appointment, they found 6 eggs larger than 20mm, 6 eggs larger than 10mm but smaller than 20mm, and 7 eggs smaller than 10mm. I felt all those shots were worthwhile; the results were amazing. However, I had severe lower abdominal bloating and frequent urination. Egg retrieval was scheduled for Saturday, August 9th. I waited for a phone call that afternoon to let them know the time for the trigger shot. On August 9th, the egg retrieval day, I arrived at 9 am, feeling a bit nervous. Because of general anesthesia, an adult must accompany me. After verifying my identity, I changed clothes, started the IV drip, and then waited to enter the operating room. After entering the operating room, the nurse adjusted my position, and then Dr. Huang came in to talk to me. The intravenous anesthesia was the most uncomfortable part of the whole process, and Dr. Huang reassured me, saying it would be over soon. Because I trusted him, Dr. Huang’s reassurance was very helpful. It was very helpful. I fell asleep almost immediately. The procedure was quick. I woke up about an hour later, feeling a heavy heaviness in my abdomen, as if pressure had been applied to stop the bleeding. An embryologist came and told me they retrieved 11 mature eggs and 3 immature eggs, which they would culture to see if they were usable. Afterwards, the nurse told my companion that we could go pay and pick up the medication. Then I changed clothes, waited for Dr. Huang to speak with me briefly, and then left. I had a follow-up appointment on the afternoon of August 11th. I felt quite uncomfortable that afternoon and evening. The nurse called to check on me and told me I would feel much better the next day. From August 9th to 10th, I spent almost all my time sleeping in bed. When I woke up on the evening of August 10th, the pain was almost gone. I’m writing down as much as I remember, hoping that more women will choose egg freezing and give themselves another possibility. Egg freezing isn’t scary, and Huang Jianrong Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic can really help you!
