(Translated by Google) [Egg Freezing Experience Sharing] Starting at 39, Leaving an Option for My Future Self | My Three Egg Freezing Experiences at Taipei Hsieh Fertility Clinic
If I could choose my life again, I wish I had learned about egg freezing much earlier. But since I'm only starting now, I hope it's not too late.
A sudden thought sparked my egg freezing journey.
At the end of my 39th year, I suddenly began to seriously consider my life plan and, for the first time, had the idea of having children.
But rationally, I also knew that I was over 35, and a woman's fertility gradually declines with age, especially the quantity and quality of eggs, a reality that cannot be ignored.
With anticipation and trepidation, I started searching online for information about egg freezing, reading many other women's sharing posts, and also began looking for a suitable clinic and doctor.
Later, I went to Taipei Hsieh Fertility Clinic (Huang Jianrong Clinic) for a consultation.
When I first met Dr. Huang Jianrong and the nurses, they spent a lot of time patiently explaining the concepts, procedures, and precautions of egg freezing to me.
What impressed me most was the lack of the coldness often found in traditional medical clinics. The overall environment was warm and welcoming, and the doctors and nurses were very friendly. This helped ease my initial anxiety and uncertainty about egg freezing, which was initially quite basic.
I think choosing a professional clinic that makes you feel at ease is crucial. Egg freezing isn't just a physical procedure; it's a process that requires courage, patience, and psychological support.
Before the consultation, I didn't really understand my ovarian reserve or what AMH levels meant. After the doctor's detailed explanation, I truly understood that age and ovarian reserve affect future fertility plans.
I didn't want to wait until I really wanted children to realize I had lost my chance.
Therefore, I decided to seize the moment and had my AMH levels checked that same day. I hoped that understanding my physical condition would provide me with more peace of mind and security for the future.
Treatment Start: AMH 1.14, making me truly feel the urgency of time.
May 4th | AMH Blood Test
Test Result: AMH 1.14.
Seeing the numbers immediately was quite disheartening.
Many things, we always think there's time, but when we actually face them, we realize time doesn't wait forever.
However, thankfully, the clinic had a warm atmosphere, and the doctors and nurses gave me a lot of support, preventing me from wallowing in despair.
I told myself that instead of regretting the past, I should start working hard now.
AMH mainly reflects ovarian reserve and cannot directly determine egg quality, nor can it solely determine future fertility. Even though my ovarian reserve wasn't as high as expected, I still wanted to seize every egg retrieval opportunity.
So, I officially embarked on this race against time to collect eggs.
Pre-treatment Egg Care Plan: Hoping every egg can grow well
Because my ovarian reserve was low, before starting the treatment, I actively followed the doctor's advice, adjusting my lifestyle and diet to maintain a better physical condition when starting the treatment.
My preparations included:
• **Supplementing with Q10:** Supplementing according to the doctor's recommended dosage, choosing liquid Q10 provided by the clinic for convenience.
• **Hormonal Treatment:** Following the doctor's instructions, use Onstar gel before egg freezing.
• **Dietary Adjustments:** Adopt a Mediterranean diet as much as possible, consuming plenty of vegetables, fruits, high-quality protein, and healthy fats.
• **Regular Exercise:** Maintain moderate exercise to make your lifestyle more regular.
• **Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment:** See a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and take Chinese herbal medicine, hoping to work together to improve your health through lifestyle and overall well-being.
During this time, I've started to take my body more seriously.
I used to take health for granted, but now I understand that when you have a goal you're eager to achieve, you're more willing to spend time taking care of yourself.
Of course, whether supplements, hormone medications, and Chinese medicine are suitable for everyone depends on individual circumstances and a doctor's assessment; more isn't always better.
First Egg Freezing | June 17-27, 2026 Entering the treatment program for the first time, everything was still unfamiliar.
From medication and injections to follow-up appointments to monitor follicles, every step was a new experience.
I'm very grateful to the nurses for their very clear explanations during the health education sessions, and for their patience in teaching me how to prepare injections, draw the medication myself, and administer the injection.
I initially thought I would be terrified of injections, but surprisingly, I handled it quite well the first time! Personally, I didn't find the pain as intense as I imagined. As long as you follow the nurses' instructions, it's not as scary as it seems.
At each follow-up appointment, they use ultrasound to monitor follicle development, and the doctor adjusts the medication plan accordingly.
Dr. Huang Jianrong is very kind to me, like a compassionate father, with a reassuring smile. Each appointment makes me feel like I'm not facing this alone, but that someone is there to support me.
First Egg Retrieval Results: 4 eggs in total
• Mature Eggs (MII): 3
• Submature Eggs (MI): 1
The results of this first retrieval gave me a start and made me realize that I need to continue working hard.
First Egg Freezing Cost: NT$132,604 Based on my actual treatment, the cost included medication and injections, blood tests and ultrasound, doctor's consultation, Q10, egg retrieval surgery and related consumables, PRP, and cryopreservation fees.
Additionally, cryopreservation fees vary depending on the storage period and related plans; the actual cost will be based on the clinic's explanation.
Currently, the eligibility criteria for egg freezing subsidies and related discounts need to be confirmed according to the latest government regulations and clinic announcements. I was aware that Taipei Hsieh Fertility Clinic offered a "Five-Star Egg Freezing Protection Plan," and you can refer to the clinic's official website for eligibility and details.
Second Egg Freezing | 2026/8/8-8/18 After the first egg retrieval, I didn't stop there but continued to prepare for the next treatment.
For me, with relatively low ovarian reserve, every follicle growth and every egg retrieval opportunity was extremely precious.
For the second treatment, I followed the doctor's instructions regarding medication and follow-up appointments.
Second Egg Retrieval Results: 7 eggs in total
• Mature Intact (MII): 2
• Sub-mature Intact (MI): 1
• Immature Vegetative Intact (GV): 4
Although 7 eggs were retrieved this time, the number of mature eggs did not meet my initial expectations.
While the number of eggs retrieved is important, I was more concerned with maximizing the number of mature eggs, as mature eggs are the primary stage for preservation during egg freezing.
During this follow-up appointment, I specifically discussed the inconsistent follicle growth rates with the doctor, hoping that adjusting the medication in the next treatment could improve follicle development.
The doctor listened carefully to my explanation and earnestly discussed the medication approach for the next treatment.
I am truly grateful to the doctor for taking the time to consider ways to improve my situation.
Because my AMH levels are low, each follicle is precious to me, and I really don't want to easily give up any possible opportunity.
I often silently cheer for these eggs, hoping they will all grow well and mature successfully.
Second egg freezing cost: NT$86,072. Includes medication and injections, blood tests and ultrasound, doctor's consultation, Q10, egg retrieval surgery and related supplies, and PRP.
Third egg freezing | 2026/9/30 – 2026/10/10 This treatment was particularly memorable for me.
On the second day after the follicle monitoring follow-up appointment, the ultrasound showed only one relatively large follicle; the other basal follicles hadn't yet shown significant growth.
The doctor immediately reminded me that if only one follicle remained, we might need to carefully consider whether to proceed with the egg retrieval surgery.
To be honest, I was quite nervous when I heard this.
But at the second follow-up, the other two follicles had started to grow, but they weren't large enough yet and we needed to wait a little longer; while the largest follicle could no longer wait.
Faced with this situation, I knew that every treatment has uncertainties, and I understood that the doctor needed to assess follicle growth and the timing of egg retrieval.
Considering my current ovarian reserve, I still cherish every opportunity in each cycle.
So, I told the doctor that even if I only get one follicle this time, I want to make the most of this egg retrieval opportunity.
After listening, the doctor didn't immediately dismiss my idea. Instead, he encouraged me to try again and said he would adjust the injection and medication plan to give the other two follicles a chance to continue growing.
He told me, "Let's try together and see if we can get the other two to catch up, aiming for three."
That moment truly moved me.
For others, it might just be a few follicles; but for me, these few follicles carry my expectations for the future and are an opportunity I don't want to give up easily.
I'm very grateful that the doctor was willing to understand my feelings and help me find solutions.
On the day of the egg retrieval surgery, I thought, "If I can retrieve three this time, that would be great."
Unexpectedly, during my recovery after the surgery, the embryologist in the embryo lab told me that a total of six eggs were retrieved, one of which had already atrophied.
Further confirmation revealed the following results:
• Mature Intracytoplasmic (MII) eggs: 4
• Sub-mature Intracytoplasmic (MI) eggs: 1
I was overjoyed to hear this result!
I had only hoped to retrieve 3 eggs, but I ended up with 4 mature eggs, the best number I've achieved in my three treatment cycles.
The joy is indescribable.
It's not just because the number was better than expected, but also because I know that my hard work, the doctor's dedication, and the medical team's assistance have greatly encouraged me throughout this treatment.
I am truly grateful to Dr. Huang Jianrong and Dr. Huang Tingqi for their professionalism and care throughout the entire process, and also to the surgical team for enabling me to successfully complete the egg retrieval.
Each egg gives me a little more hope for the future.
Third egg freezing cost: NT$49,832. This includes medication and injections, blood tests and ultrasound examinations, doctor's consultation, Q10, egg retrieval surgery, and related technical consumables.
This is a summary of my personal treatment records and actual expenses. The included items and costs will vary depending on each person's medication method, treatment schedule, and storage plan. This is provided for reference only for girls who need it.
For me, these numbers are not just treatment records, but also every step I've taken towards my future.
To girls who are hesitating about egg freezing:
If I could, I really wish I had learned about egg freezing sooner.
But I also understand that many things in life don't necessarily happen at the time we expect.
Before, I didn't think about fertility so seriously. It wasn't until I was almost 39 and suddenly had the idea of having children that I realized some choices really need to be prepared for early.
Therefore, I want to share this experience with more women.
If you are unsure whether you will get married, have children, or haven't yet met someone suitable to build a family with, perhaps you should first understand your physical condition.
It is recommended to consult a reproductive medicine specialist to assess your AMH, antral follicle count (AFC), and other related factors to understand your ovarian reserve. Then, based on your age, health condition, and future plans, decide whether to freeze your eggs.
Especially if you're still young, I sincerely suggest you learn about egg freezing as early as possible.
This isn't to make you anxious or rush into a decision, but rather to encourage you to explore more possibilities while you still have time to choose.
Egg freezing isn't a guarantee of fertility, nor does it guarantee a successful pregnancy in the future, but it allows us to retain more options for the future.
Finally, I'm truly grateful to Dr. Huang Jianrong and Dr. Huang Tingqi at Taipei Hsieh Fertility Clinic (Huang Jianrong Clinic), as well as every nursing staff member and medical team.
Initial Consultation | Thank you Dr. Huang Jianrong for making me feel at ease on my egg freezing journey. He felt very approachable, like a kind father, always with a warm smile. Egg Retrieval Surgery | Thank you to Vice Dr. Huang Tingqi (Dr. Huang) for his professionalism and care.
Throughout these three egg freezing treatments, I am also very grateful to Vice Dr. Huang Tingqi, whom everyone knows as "Dr. Huang," for his professional assistance during the egg retrieval surgery and treatment.
